Well, I am about two-thirds decorated so far….. The “antiquey” wreath and tree are up but the “mid-century” and “traditional” trees are not yet photo ready. Work issues, freelance, and selling have taken up most of my time recently. (I apologize for the lack of blog and instagram posts.) I am grateful for how well things have sold, but a little overwhelmed that most of it happened in a two week span…..I must be better prepared next year! (Yeah, right…)
I did just get these snapshots of the wreath done. I will get some up of the tree in the next couple of your days.
Most of the ornaments are probably 1920’s and 30’s, but they do span the years from about 1890 to the 1950’s. I focus on gold, silver, white and faded ornaments. (It keeps me from collecting everything!) I made the wreath from a wiry base wreath and added grey wood branches and long-needled sprays. I covered the whole thing in mica flakes for softness and sparkle. This year I added small LED wire lights.
My number one tip for using a wreath to display ornaments, is to make sure the wreath is “spidery” with bendable branches and lots of spaces for things to hang. It will look very strange before you actually put the ornaments on, but you will be able to really load it up! My second tip would be to hang it over a round mirror (mine was from Ikea.) It makes the whole thing a little more magical!
